Hillcrest Educational Centers Offers Two New Graduate Programs in Partenership with Endicott College in January 2016
PITTSFIELD, Mass. November 4, 2015—Hillcrest Educational Centers is partnering with Endicott College for the second year in a row to offer two new local graduate programs at the Hillcrest Administrative Offices on 788 South Street in Pittsfield, MA starting in January 2016.
The two programs are: (1) a Master’s in Education specializing in Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) M.Ed. and (2) Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certificate program. The M.Ed. program informs students about state-of-the-art special education strategies particular to individuals with the diagnosis of Autism, to increase student success and teacher effectiveness. To meet the challenge of treating the complex behavioral, learning and social aspects of autism, students receive dual training in both autism spectrum disorders and applied behavior analysis.
Students who complete the 39-credit M.Ed. in Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis program will earn their Master’s Degree in Education and also will have met the educational requirements to sit for the examination to be certified as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), which is the internationally recognized certification offered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Along with the educational requirements, there is a supervised practicum requirement to complete as well.
Individuals who already possess a master’s degree in Education and/or Psychology can apply for the BCBA Certification program to become Board Certified as a BCBA. This 18-credit BCBA sequence involves 6 graduate courses in ABA and a comprehensive examination course.
Hillcrest is excited to be partnering with Endicott College’s Institute for Behavioral Studies for this endeavor. The Institute for Behavioral Studies was established in 2007 to afford students the opportunity to focus on academic curricula related to the study of the Applied Behavior Analysis. Applied Behavior Analysis is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior (Baer, Wolf & Risley, 1968; Sulzer-Azaroff & Mayer, 1991).
